Aberdeen

With our lovely visitor Lyda we’ve planned a trip up north to explore the city of Aberdeen.

We were lucky with a sunny weather again and enjoyed the morning 2 and half hours long train ride along the Scottish coastline.

Aberdeen is Scotland’s third most populous city. It’s often called the Granite City because its landmark buildings are built of locally quarried grey granite, which can sparkle like silver on a sunny day. One of the is the Marischal College.

Since the discovery of North Sea oil in the 1970s, its other nickname has been the Oil Capital of Europe. And this is true now more than ever. Aberdeen is the oil city with a higher rate of multimillionares per head than London. And all those deep-water divers working weeks 150m below the North Sea and earning over 1000£ a day love fast cars, big bikes, and fun :)

We couldn’t help ourselves and had to enjoy a nice sunny day by the sea.

It was freaking cold. No need to wear bikiny.

Aberdeen’s Heliport is one of the busiest commercial heliports in the world (it’s the only wait how you can get to work at the oil fields out in the sea) and the seaport is the largest in the north-east of Scotland.
The maritime museum in Aberdeen with its large part devoted to the oil industry is really interesting and well worth a visit.
